Normal Menstruation in Korean Reproductive Women; Association with Body Mass Index and Percent Body Fat

Abstract

|
|
Objectives: The objective of the study was to evaluate the critical body mass index and percent body fat of Korean
reproductive women with normal menstrual cycles.
Methods: Questionnaires were given to 8,793 reproductive women reviewed at Ewha Womans University Mokdong
hospital. 247 women have normal menstruation without hyperandrogenism or polycystic ovary morphology. Body
mass index and waist-hip ratio were calculated and the percent body fat was measured using In body 230.
Results: In Korean reproductive women with normal menstruation, the mean age was 23.64¡¾4.26 years. The mean
body mass index was 20.88¡¾2.60 kg/m2. The 5th, 10th, 90th and 95th percentile of body mass index were 17.10
kg/m2, 17.95 kg/m2, 24.04 kg/m2, and 25.63 kg/m2, respectively. The mean waist-hip ratio was 0.80¡¾0.05 The 5th,
10th, 90th and 95th percentile of waist-hip ratio were 0.72, 0.74, 0.87, and 0.89. The mean percent body fat was
30.90¡¾5.58%. The 5th, 10th, 90th and 95th percentile of body fat were 22.30%, 23.90%, 37.43%, and 38.90%,
respectively.
Conclusion: Our results show the distribution of body mass index and percent body fat in Korean reproductive women
with normal menstruation.
